Hose Clamps and Connection Fittings
Screw-type metal clamps (Erbi), worm-drive and heavy-duty types; sizes from 8 mm to 200 mm.
A clamp is a simple but critical part that seals a hose by tightening it onto a fitting or pipe. Its simplicity is deceptive: a clamp of the wrong size, or one that has been over-tightened, can cut into the hose and create exactly the leak it was meant to prevent.
The most common type is the screw (worm-drive) metal clamp, which uses a screw engaging teeth cut into the band to provide stepless tightening. Its size is always given as a range — for example 20–30 mm — and the outer diameter of the hose over the fitting should fall in the middle of that range. Working at the extreme end of the range causes the clamp to either under-tighten or deform the band.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the correct clamp size?
Measure the OUTER diameter of the hose after it has been fitted over the connector, and choose a clamp whose range places that value near the middle. For example, if the outer diameter is 25 mm, a 20–30 mm clamp is suitable; a 25–40 mm clamp would sit at the edge of its range.
How tight should I tighten the clamp?
Stop tightening as soon as a seal is achieved. Over-tightening causes the band to dig into the hose rubber and eventually cut through it. On high-pressure hydraulic lines a clamp is not sufficient in any case — crimped (pressed) fittings must be used.
Are clamps used on hydraulic lines?
Not on high-pressure hydraulic lines — there, hose ends are crimped instead. Clamps are suitable for low-pressure suction, return, water, air, and fuel lines. Beyond that pressure limit, a clamp is not safe.
